Quiet, well-made, amazing-sounding tube phono preamp

This preamp adds rich tube harmonics and fat bass, with an expanded, vibrant soundstage. The device is solid and heavy, with a metal volume control that is pleasant to the touch. It even has a small drilled mount to easily see its position. The pipe sleeves feel solid, although I wouldn't roll my pipes daily for years without expecting trouble. The sockets are installed on the board, not on the chassis, which is normal. I always flood the contacts and plugs with Deoxit first. So is he buzzing…

Pros
  • Wide range
Cons
  • I don't remember, but there was something

Not definitive but really respectable

It's not the definitive tube phono stage but for the price it offers very respectable performance. I bought this thing for the second system. My main setup is very high end, but I like to tinker with the budget approach with my second system. I first replaced three factory 12ax7s with a couple of JJ ECC803/12ax7s and didn't have the hum issues that some had. In fact, it's very quiet for lamps, which was a pleasant surprise. Great tonal balance with lots of body. High frequencies are flat while…

Poorly soldered, big distortion, waste of money

Wanted to like it, but even with modernized Russian tubes and high-quality connecting cables the sound was still not acceptable for such a price. The low bass was very weak, but was improved somewhat with Russian tubes. Connections improved the sound slightly. But what really annoyed me was the hissing distortion, which I attributed to the pickup/downforce. So I upgraded the pickup so that it doesn't affect the noise distortion. that all the distortions were in Little Bear. I took apart the…

Pros
  • Trial period for one year
Cons
  • Cable is shorter than other picks

The bulbs were defective upon delivery.

Bought for my old Technics SL-1200mk2. It arrived very well packaged and after setting everything up and warming it up I rolled up one of my favorite vinyls. Instead of music, I heard a jiggling/pulsing noise coming from my speakers. not okay! I turned everything off and reinstalled the tubes only to hear the same thing. not cool. I have other tube gear, so I grabbed three 12x7 tubes from another amp and plugged in (and switched the tube selector to the correct tube type. No pumping or frizz…

I like drums. Compatible with Receivers and Amplifiers

I accidentally pressed the one-click buy button on my tablet when I turned off the tablet (not exactly an intentional purchase). Anyway, when this thing arrived I debated for days whether to return it or give it a try, so it's now sitting in my living room hooked up to my Pro-Ject turntable and Denon amp. I find the sound warm and open, I have something for drums that sounds, well, like drums. This is achieved for me, also I love how vocals and acoustics sound with this preamp, again very open…

Cons
  • Style 90

Great sound as a buffer

I hooked this up to an old Kenwood system and a KD-5100 turntable. I used the tubes that came with it, but the tinny sound didn't bother me. I bought different tube sets, a set of "ugly" Mullard 12AX7 and a set of Russian 6N2P-EV rockets with a silver shield. The price difference between the two sets is slightly better, the Mullards are slightly better, but the 6N2Ps are also excellent and offer a full midrange with great highs and lows. Noise and hum is an absolute problem with this thing. Use

Pros
  • Adopting a traditional RIAA active phono stage circuit. There are 3 metal caps and 4 acrylic caps for these tubes. And you can choose which style you like.
Cons
  • Ugly packaging

Good but not great out of the box. Tons of potential.

I previously bought a Yaqin MS-23B as a phono stage. While I liked the sound I got from it, it had a very strong hum that other owners assured me was part of a design flaw. The MS-23B also uses transistor-based amplifier circuitry, as opposed to T11 tube amplification. The result is a different sound. I sent it back and chose LBT11. The sound isn't bad, but cheap China tubes sound pretty "thin". Lacking the luscious quality you often find in the finest tubes. I plan to replace them as soon as…
