Review on Sioux Chief 660-TK Mini Rester: Female Swivel Nut with Male Ballcock Thread - Brass/Antique Brass by James Trapkin

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Not fully/correctly assembled at the factory; almost sent back

The original installation was quick - just unscrew the water supply hose, screw the large black nut onto the inlet of the fill valve and screw the nut of the supply hose onto the inlet thread (brass) of the surge arrester body. The knock is gone now. But under the black mother it leaked a lot, and when tightened it didn't feel tight. He tinkered, tinkered, gave up and reinstalled the supply hose as it was before. There are no leaks now. But he's still knocking. A few hours later I googled something on the issue and came across a Revain report on the same issue stating that the large brass seat/nut holding the large black nut in place was loose and not complete was sealed. Bingo! That was the problem. Disassembled it, removed most of the useless thread sealant and instead used teflon tape to seal the threads (three full turns in the direction of thread tightening). ) Allen key. It worked. Obviously this is a common problem. The Sioux chief is busy. Added June 15, 2021: These devices work fine when made right, so I bought a second device. (Competiting devices appear to have the same issues.) It turns out this one isn't built right either. The nut/seat didn't come loose this time, but it wasn't fully seated either, being held in place only by dried cane grease. It's likely that the teflon tape also leaked and/or came loose so I took it apart, cleaned the threads and reassembled using teflon tape as above. BTW the correct way to apply teflon tape to the male threads is as seat/ Nut fitted and tightened. Addendum 06/25/2021: Since I'm two for two, I have to assume that all devices of this model are affected. So before installing I would use a 5/16" hex wrench to tighten the seat/nut and see if it moves at all, even with quite a bit of pressure. and rotated about 1/8-1/4 turn (seat/nut thread 5/8-18 if I remember correctly).

Pros

Cons
