I replaced my 10 year old Sharp Carousel 1100 Watt when it started making noise and heating unevenly with this Panasonic. I needed at least 1100 watts and was glad to find this unit as it was one of the few compact 1100-1200 watt desktop units in the 12x20x15 size. After reading the instructions and installing a new microwave, I was itching to try them. I have whole wheat Kodiak muffins that cook in my own cup in a minute. After adding water and stirring, place in microwave and set on full power for 1 minute. Immediately I was struck by a sound like a screeching tornado in a wind tunnel. It can't be, but I let the cupcake sit for the allotted minute. Upon removing it I noticed that there was still liquid in the middle and the cup was very hot at the bottom and cool at the top. I made them in my old 1100w Sharp all the time and they always tasted and turned out great. I let the cup sit to continue baking, but that didn't happen. The cupcake stayed raw in the middle and the cooked part tasted awful. At 1200w this microwave should have outperformed my 1100w Sharp but it didn't. Maybe it's defective, I don't know. The sound of the wind was so loud that I left the kitchen thinking it might explode. In fact, it sounded and behaved exactly like the Sharp I replaced due to the sudden noise and improper heating. Before I give up and send it back I'll try calling Panasonic and see what they can do. I previously had a Panasonic and this unit was recommended by several sources. It looks good, doesn't have enough light, but mostly I want it to work.
