Make it far enough away to use the star when mounted on the roof

We love all but one of these stars. The controller is attached to the star with a wire about 8 inches long. That means you can't reach the controller if you mount it on the roof. However, many people complain that if you install the star on the roof of your home, it is impossible to control the functions of the star's light program because the controller is not remotely controlled unless you climb back onto the roof to control it of the house I successfully cut 3 short wires going from the controller to the star I then connected three 30ft pieces of wire between the star and the controller (making a makeshift extension between the controller and the star). I painted the first wire red and numbered it #1. I left the second wire (the middle of the three wires coming from the small controller box) white and numbered its wire #2. 3rd wire the I painted black and colors numbered #3 don't matter, I just wish I could reconnect the extended wires in the correct order. I tried six or seven wire types before I found one that worked. What worked was using three separate 30 foot 18 gauge stranded wires. I could not find any conventional triplex wiring that worked successfully as triplex wiring always resulted in very erratic light patterns. No matter how many times I pressed the button to change the glow pattern when using normal triple wiring, the behavior of the glow circuit was always erratic, unpredictable and unacceptable. However, 3 separate pieces of wire worked! With this arrangement, I was able to operate the controller from my porch while the star was mounted 30 feet from me on my two-story home. As a side note, in all of these experiments, I also discovered a way to turn on the light yourself. on and off without losing the controller settings I chose. I've found that if I disconnect wire #2 (the white wire in my case, the middle of the 3 wires coming out of the controller) the light goes out, but if I reconnect the middle wire, the light goes out. Go back and the controller will remember the pattern I chose earlier. Oooh... I connected a simple single pole toggle switch to wire #2 (next to the controller). With this circuit, I was able to turn the lights on and off without turning off the controller, and again, voila! the controller remembers which setting I set last time. Note though that I had to keep the controller plugged in (turned on) or it would lose its memory and when I plugged it back in the controller would revert to its default functioning. As long as the controller has power, toggling the switch on wire #2 will toggle the light on and off. I suspect this change will void the warranty, but the warranty isn't very long anyway. considerable distance from the star. I'll try to answer all your questions, but I'm not an electronics expert. just someone who loves tinkering and who wanted this beautiful star to be controlled remotely without having to walk up the stairs every time it loses power.
