I found a few things about this thermometer that I didn't like which is why I returned it for another. First you had to press a button to have the temperature read out to you. Second, you had to press a button to turn on the backlight and then it only stayed on for about 2 seconds. And thirdly, if you don't insert the probe into the measurement object right after turning the device on, it will drop to ambient temperature and won't read until you restart it. Most likely it was accurate once you were able to take the temperature. I'll try another block that might be more useful.
