I'm not sure if the cork material is on the pulley itself. But I doubt that's why it creaked.

It was pretty nice, it didn't look, feel or look cheap. I had a slight squeaking problem when I first started the engine after installing it. I don't know why, he stopped after about 200 miles, sprayed it with some kind of lube until it finally stopped squeaking.
