I just received a Tavool 511 Stud Finder and had to try it. I ran it over drywall and it worked great. Then I tried it on knotted pine. A bit harder because: #1 the surface is a little rougher where the wood flaw causes drag - should move a little slower, and #2 knots seem to change density enough to fool the tool. just know I don't expect to use it often on knotty pine as a little inspection will usually reveal the location of the nails hidden under the knees. It works well when detecting AC power, at least for detecting a live wire in the area. The manual mentioned monitoring the signal strength, but mine exceeded it by a wide margin. Excellent for detecting the presence of a live wire rather than its specific location. I didn't have any metal rivets to try this on. All in all, this is a very useful tool and I would recommend it.
