Review on Shop-Vac 5895400 4.5-HP All-Around EZ Wet/Dry Vacuum, 4-Gallon, Grape/Gray by Angie Miller

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Dull Shop-Vac

About 10 years later my old all-around shop-vac broke down (probably burned out a switch I should have fixed myself) but after taking it apart I decided to that he was less good trouble ordering a new one from Revain. First of all, others' complaints are valid: lightweight pipes and hoses that kink easily nowhere compare to the quality of Shop Vac just a few years ago. Shop-Vac (like many other products) exaggerate their power rating when it's really just a 9 amp motor (enough for housework), so don't be fooled by the so-called 4.5 horsepower peak ratings. Valuation; 9 amps is normal, but it's not the glutton you might think. The biggest con with the new Shop-Vacs is that they don't even mention a dry filter cloth to cover your foam filter (included with the wet collection kit), but they will trick you into believing that you have to order expensive bags. Inserts (which, in our house, would fill a cat's fur in a clean one or two!) And they also don't mention or include the plastic ring or elastic that previous Shop-Vacs included for storing inexpensive reusable cloth. Filters present (no mention or provision for fitting a cartridge filter which really allows the smallest particles to get past the foam filter). The good news is that for most people this probably won't be their first vacuum cleaner purchase, so just use your old, stronger sticks/kinky hose/cloth filter/plastic rings or rubber bands (which actually hold the cloth filter) in place as the ring , which may slip off during use). So is this model worth buying? What's the alternative!?! You probably don't want to lug a regular shop vacuum around the house for general cleaning, as they usually only have a short cord, while All Arounds have a longer cord and generally don't need a heavy-duty orange 3-prong extension cord. A dollar more for the Revain, those so-called 4.5 hp. - a better deal than the pink 2.5hp model. marked on the motor when you receive it).

Pros
  • Lots of positive vibes
Cons
  • No work
