This mug is not designed for temperature changes, eg when going from cold to room temperature. The rubber stopper behind the straw is not designed to let air out, only to let it in. Therefore, any change in pressure causes water to slosh out of the straw. My 1.5 year old got a nasty splash when he opened his cup and the water splashed all over him. Branded thermoses are better but are no longer made. Thermos (hard straw) brand mugs have the cork built into the straw, so it only closes when the straw is in the down (closed) position. The straw is quite wide for my little man and the cup doesn't fit. in standard sized cup holders, only larger. I won't buy anymore. Instead, I will buy more branded thermos bottles (if I can find them).
