First off, yes I know this set is suitable for ages 8-108. However, my 4 year old son is obsessed with electronics and keeps trying to play with my Arduino. It seemed like the safer option so I bought it for her and will consider it that way if you have a similarly ambitious preschooler who is no longer happy with Code-a-pillar. Pros: * Physical shape - perfect for small hands. Check out my photo of a regular sized coffee cup resistor. Images can be a bit "sticky" which is sometimes an issue but not a big deal. My kid definitely needed my help sorting pieces at times, but it was pretty easy for her. - great that we can get more of these kits and combine them. There's also a fairly active community creating new projects, so google "make circuits" if you're running out of projects and want to see more cool things to do. Cons: * Why are so many of these projects "military" and "bombing" and "combat"? To be honest, that was the biggest downside of this kit for me. How can we not? Can we just build something cool? ?* The instructions are definitely for older children, see my photos, it's not the product, they are clear and well illustrated, but my child is not yet developed enough to really tell the difference between all the numbers in the picture understand, so you didn't understand that there is an order of operations. With my help they got it, but especially for more complex projects I basically had to build it - which I expected, but hopefully the pictures here give you an idea of what you're dealing with, you can decide if you feel like it.* Mostly loud noises and lights. It's my fault for not taking a closer look at what's included in this set, so this might be the *pro* for you. For my kid who hates loud noises, it would have been kind of a scam as they really wanted more projects related to the movement. Things like saying what AND versus OR involves, but the differences are too subtle to care about my child. However, as the kids get a little older, I suspect this set will come to life as they begin to understand what the other projects are teaching. will definitely get a lot of life out of it. And let's be honest, I enjoy it too.
