This does exactly what it is supposed to do. I can even catch small and sometimes medium sized crickets in it. Psychics can escape, but to be honest that's pretty rare. I haven't tried large crickets yet, but I think it will be almost the same as medium crickets as long as they don't try to jump. For small animals, the size I got (big) was definitely too big. big. However, my baby grew on it pretty quickly. I have a bearded dragon and it's right under my foot now. (<30 cm) He can go in there and get his food, but he slips a bit due to the material that keeps mealworms and the like inside. I put the branch next to him and hugged them both tightly against his fur. so he can sit on the branch and eat without sliding over the bowl or wiggling the branch. The good thing about getting it in a larger size was that when it grows up it will be the perfect size for him to eat his veggies! If you have small animals, by no means get a big one unless they grow into one. Note, however, that they may not be able or willing to use it until they can stand outside while eating, unless you're willing to get used to the lack of material to grab the bowl, like i did If I had to do it again I would take the little one THEN the big one, but in the end it worked out and he's happy. A good product!
