I consider it a necessary element for your new filter

I consider it a necessary element for your new filter. The supplied hoses are too short and an extra one or two will get the air intake where it should be (about 3 or 4 inches above the substrate). I have 3 Aquaclear filters, they are to be installed and all 3 have extensions. You can just as easily buy it with the purchase of a filter, so shipping is free :-)
