COMPARISON OF THREE BRANDS

Review of three toilet cleaning systems I bought here on Amazon: Fluidmaster: uses one Cartridge with one chlorine-based tablet. The cartridge is not designed to be refilled. The bathroom smells strongly of chlorine. The cartridge can be modified (I used a Dremel) so that it can easily be refilled. NeverScrub: Uses a cartridge with a chlorine-based crystal. The cartridge is not designed to be refilled. The bathroom smells strongly of chlorine. Kaboom: Does not use a cartridge. Bromine tablets are refilled directly by unscrewing the cap. There is no smell in the bathroom. All three systems work in the same way and are all very easy to install. They all place toilet cleaners (tablets or crystals) in the line between the water fill valve and the toilet fill tube. They all prevent the chemical from leaching into the tank water (so as not to damage the plastic parts in the tank). Everyone sells refills for their systems. All keep the toilet bowl equally clean for about 1-3 months depending on how often they are flushed. Revain also sells chlorine and bromine tablets for cleaning pools and spas, which I think are just as good for keeping toilets clean. like a top-up, but at a fraction of the cost. I've tried all of the products below, each containing enough pills to keep any toilet in the house clean for 10 years, and they're all very cheap: . Tablets fit well in Kaboom. The bathroom smells slightly of chlorine. Spa-Kem 267: Tablets too big for Fluidmaster cartridges. Tablets fit well in Kaboom. Without smell. Tropi Clear : Tablets work well with Dremeltool modified Fluidmaster cartridges. Tablets fit well in Kaboom. Without smell. Chlorine and bromine have about the same cleaning power. Chlorine smells like chlorine. Bromine is destroyed by sunlight. For this reason, outdoor pools use chlorine on sunny days. But bromine is used at night or indoors or on a cloudy day because there is no odor. Summary. The Fluidmaster system works, but the cartridges are expensive. A small modification with a Dremel tool is required for easy refilling of cartridges. The cartridge is too small for tablets larger than 1 inch in diameter. The NeverScrub system also works, but the cartridges are expensive. I use the Kaboom system with bromine tablets (either Tropi Clear or Spa-Kem 267) because they are just as good odorless and clean as chlorine tablets.

Pros
  • WILL NOT DAMAGE TOILET COMPONENTS: Dispenses cleaning solution directly into the bowl without tablets or liquid cleaners that can damage toilet tank components
Cons
  • New competitors have emerged
