I had a regular HOB filter that I bought YEARS ago with my small fish tank when I started the hobby. I need tanks now. 55 gallon with a canister filter that works amazing and love it. My 20 gallon tank had an old quiet flow Aqueon 50 version with an axolotl. I was constantly trying to find ways to confuse him so the current wouldn't get too strong and stress the axolotl. I bought it as a replacement for HOB. That works great! The delivery was very fast, I received it the next day, which is quite surprising as we live far from the city. It is easy to assemble and works like a normal external filter. The flow is adjustable, but since it also comes with an atomizer, that was even more enticing. I used a piece of ceramic, a filter media I had in my old HOB filter, and simply trimmed the sponges to fit. Recycling is not required. My axolotl is very happy now. The output power is not too high and it is even quieter than the last filter.
