Great little machine

This is a fantastic machine for those who want a simple all-round machine and want to invest in something that will last long enough to decide what ( if any) is more of a specialized machine type that you might want. And it's a great fallback option should your other car need to be sent in for regular service or repairs. I've been sewing for decades. In the beginning I was mainly a seamstress, later I started to quilt. I can sew most clothes and home accessories on this machine. But I don't like it for quilting, and it's not the machine I choose for buttonholes, blind hems, piping, piping, or any special technique that requires unusual sewing feet. I originally bought this to use when my Viking Sapphire 870 mod car died out. service (leave him alone, now he is dead). What I love about this little Janome is its simplicity. My other machines I need manuals for many projects when I want to make something special. With this little guy, I just put in a new needle, a full bobbin, turn it on, choose a stitch, width and length and away you go. It doesn't matter if it's been 2 years, this machine is so simple it looks like a bike, I don't need instructions. Repair. Also, it's very unlikely to run out of power if I forget to unplug it during a thunderstorm. The important parts of this machine are made of metal. This makes it a little heavier, but it won't tangle in thicker fabrics or tight weaves. Jeans with a hem? The motor isn't a problem, although to be honest I have to use a small clamp or jumper to keep seam allowances when stacked on top of each other. It's okay - I need the same mount for a more expensive car. I've seen someone say they need a machine that can sew through 2 layers of fabric and batting so they can quilt. My answer to that is that this is not the car you are looking for. Yes, it can sew through, but this machine is not designed for quilting. Yes, you can put the slab on it, but the space for the harp is too small, more than a small patchwork quilt or tapestry, and there is no leg to walk on, and I don't think it can move freely, but if he not allowed. will be fun in this tiny space. I hid it for a couple of years after replacing the Viking with a 6700p. I didn't do anything to it until I had to send my 6700p in for repairs 2 months ago. It was difficult for the technician to reproduce the problem and the machine was out of service for more than 2 months. I couldn't wait that long to sew so I worked on a pile of things I had collected that needed hemming and repairing and I also had to make a panel for the curtains. And that's what I did with this car. I hemmed and fixed this pile and then made a curtain. After that I started sewing some blocks for my next quilting project. I got bogged down in little things on this machine. I'm a little spoiled by my much more expensive 6700r. It has an automatic thread cutter with foot control and knee lever and all other functions. I explain this experience with a metaphor: Imagine you have to cut 16 pounds of vegetables of various kinds with precision, and you used to have an industrial food processor, but now all you have is a knife and a small cutting board. So no, I never want to sew blankets on this machine. Is always. This is perfectly normal. This machine is not designed for that. As this is a heavy and mechanical machine I expect it to last a few decades with occasional use. And I could take this to class because it's a lot lighter and more compact than the monstrous 6700p. If you do basic general sewing and want a simple machine that will last you many years and give you little to no problems; This is for you. If you're just starting out and know you're going to get something more specialized once you figure out what you want to do most often in your hobby, then save that as a backup: this is for you. If you're not sure what you are I will sew, but I know I want to sew. I recommend getting a lightweight, feature-packed machine in this entry-level price range. Make sure it has an extended plexiglass sewing table (many are included). You'll appreciate this free access to the needle no matter what type of project you have. Return to this machine when you really need something heavy duty or want a super simple machine that will last you for years to come.

Cons
  • Not bad, but...
