Review on Beck Arnley 158-0154 Coolant Temperature Sensor: 🌑️ Reliable and Precise Monitoring for Optimal Engine Performance by Keith Samuel

Revainrating 1 out of 5

The sensor was not working properly. Poor fit of electrical connections. The Honda OEM part was fine.

Purchased for 2000 Honda CRV LX. The unit differs slightly from the original Honda part in that a copper sealing washer is used instead of an internal rubber sealing ring. However, I installed the sensor in the engine with no problems. When I plugged in the electrical connector, I found that it was very tight and didn't snap into place very easily. With the Actron code scanner connected and "key on/engine off", I found the reading to be intermittent when I wiggled slightly on the ECT sensor electrical connector. I reconnected the connector several times to get a stable reading. It was difficult to connect the electrical connector to get it to "click". After starting the car, I found that my Actron scanner's real-time coolant temperature reading was about 20 degrees Fahrenheit higher than normal after warming up while idling at about 2000 rpm. . I tested the car and noticed that after the engine has warmed up and when driving at normal speed (about 40-50 mph) the air conditioning turns off. The air conditioning turned on again and started cold air again as soon as the car stopped and cooled. My guess is that the ECM read incorrect high temp readings from the sensor and turned off the A/C to prevent it from being an overheat condition. The temperature reading (provided by another transmitter) stayed within the normal range. I ordered an OEM version of the Honda sensor and installed it instead. It was easy to install and the electrical connection "clicked" in well. The scanner readings stayed stable as I moved the electrical connector. When I started the car and warmed it up, the coolant temperature scanner readings stayed within the normal range. The air conditioning worked perfectly now. I've been driving the car for a few weeks now with no problems. It's possible the Beck-Arnley sensor was defective, but I didn't want to get a replacement and get the same results, so I just ordered a more expensive Honda part. I will be returning this part to Revain for a refund.
