Review on ⚙️ Ryobi DP103L Green Drill Press: Power and Precision Combined by Erik Haynes

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Insufficiently accurate and insufficient pen stroke. Poorly finished and QC.

My wife ordered the 8" model in HD. I just needed to be able to drill relatively precise holes in blanks for grips up to 3.5". The assembly instructions are too small and poorly written. Watch any unboxing video on YouTube, they are generally better After reading all the warnings that the chuck could fall off the MT mandrel due to improper chuck installation, I used a heat treatment method to mount the chuck You have to be very careful not to damage the pulley cover! Conversely, I noticed that the aluminum castings are full of voids. Not small voids, big holes. Also all the other castings were poorly finished. The 3 holes that were drilled around the Attaching stands to the base were misaligned so the stand was tilted 1/8th In the spot where the When the drill head was attached to the stand, there was excessive play. The worm gear and chain assembly are terrible and grip every other turn. The sawdust on the workbench indicates that the gear is probably regrooving itself. I still saw significant runout in the chuck and drill tool tip, but can't tell if it's a bad chuck, a poorly machined MT spring, or a questionable shank. While I knew cruise depth would be an issue, I didn't expect accuracy to be so poor. When inverting the part in the jig, the holes do not converge. If you move the table up, the hole lengthens. While I had it I checked several cuts in wood and metal with different bits. I can't even agree that this is a "just regular" general carpenter's tool and I don't think it will last very long. I have had a Black and Deck drill attachment for 20 years. It costs about $40 and you can install any hand (collared) drill or rotozip tool. Repeat standard carpenter holes through 2x4 with this simple tool.
