After my wife broke her arm, I had to install a temporary railing on the side of the stairwell wall between floors of our home. I first tried my old magnetic viewfinder but it was useless so after reading the reviews I ordered the ProSensor. It proved ideal for the job, being easy and quick to use, despite the inconvenience of that job. First, the house is old, with a heavy lathe and plaster. Secondly, a few years ago I repaired the plaster and edited it so that metal screws were screwed in everywhere. Third, my temporary railing had to cross floors from the bottom floor to the top floor where the frame is different and the floor frame gets in the way. Fourth, the bottom three feet of the wall has sheathing and stucco creating obstructions and adding thickness to that portion. Also, I didn't want to drill any extra holes at all. ProSensor did an excellent job on this task. Its readings are almost instantaneous! I like how it shows the full width of the stud. Tips: 1) Holding it upside down can bring it closer to some points. 2) Use small squares of tape to mark the centers of the studs. Then check at different heights to avoid mistakes, using a spirit level or plumb bob to ensure verticality. This improves accuracy. 3) You can mark a series of spikes and check the distance between them for spots you may have doubts about. It also allows for bolt interpolation in tight spaces where the transducer may not fit. 4) If you can reach the other side of the wall, mark the posts there as well and compare both sides, e.g. B. measure with a door frame tape measure. 5) I found it best to place the sensor and then press the button. Moving the sensor while holding the button sometimes gave ambiguous results. I recommend trying all of these methods as old houses often have unusual frame configurations. Conclusion - I am enthusiastic about this device! This is important for every handyman. This turns tedious work into great fun.
