Review on πŸ’₯ Enhance Performance with StarTech.com 2x M.2 SATA SSD Controller Card - PCIe by George Bell

PCIe running on FreeBSD

This 2 port (B-Key SATA) card worked right out of the box on my FreeBSD 10.3 system (Linux support is probably just as easy). There is no problem running it in a PCIe 2.0 x16 slot on an older system, although the manufacturer's website specs call for PCIe 3.0. chipset as a version with SATA passthrough). FreeBSD dmesg output: kernel: ahci0: <AHCI SATA controller> mem 0xf9ffe000-0xf9ffffff irq 28 on device 0.0 on pci1kernel: ahci0: AHCI v1.31 with 12 6 Gb/s ports, port multiplier is supported, although the card has one 4-pin (flex style) power jack seems to work fine without the extra juice. The manual states that it can work both from the PCIe bus and from an external source. In my case, the bus performance seems to be sufficient. I'm currently using it with a couple of Crucial MX300 m.2 drives, no problems so far, although the PCIe 2 bus becomes a bottleneck when both drives are completely drained. Both drives can read at 450MB/s, but both together have a top speed of 360MB/s each (I think the bus could be the controller). It's likely that performance will be better in a PCIe 3.x slot. I will update if there are any unforeseen performance or stability issues, but I wanted to verify the information I was looking for before purchasing. Recommended (so far).
