I am a Home Inspector and this is my point of sale tester because my customers can read it easily enough and it is clearly visible in the photos , because you don't have to decode 3 light codes from more traditional testers. Green = good. I also find the green traffic light easier to read and just need a quick glance and then I can move on to the next socket. It's very efficient with my time. Although the non-contact voltage detector is extremely sensitive, it helps me a lot to determine if the wires I'm looking at are live or not. It's too sensitive though, registering hot wires when they're 1-2 inches apart. So if there are two wires, all I can confirm is that at least one of them is live. No problem I have a higher quality voltage tester in my truck and I can take it when I need more accuracy that it's too sensitive as it doesn't affect my work that much but YMMV. I also like that it has a large, comfortable handle and the length makes it easy to get in and out of. Overall, between light and ease of use, every socket I test is 1-2 seconds faster than the little 3 light ones. This time saving adds up when I appraise 2-3 houses a day in the summer. -6 months of that with daily use with 50-150 outlets per day What happens is the ground contact loosens and all outlets show as ungrounded and you can no longer test GFCI rated outlets/breakers. Another problem is that I keep the tester in my tool bag and keep pulling it out and putting it back in, the words start rubbing off. This isn't a problem for me as I've memorized the positions, but it defeats the purpose of using this tester because customers can't read it and the pictures don't show the problem. You may be wondering why I am still using this product and giving it 4 stars when it only lasts 4-6 months. Well after buying my third one I found some fixes and I've been using my current tester for over 16 months now.1. There is only one small screw holding the ground pin in the tester. After repeated use, the screw will eventually knock out the plastic screw hole and the pin will come loose inside the device. Once this happens, the 26 gauge wire connecting the ground pin to the tester's computer/processor breaks and there is no longer a ground. This can be fixed if you have good soldering skills and can re-solder the wire and then re-glue the ground pin. That's how I did it on my last one and it still works. If/when this one finally breaks my plan is to buy a new one and then immediately preemptively superglue it, which should keep the tester going. 2. To keep the words from wearing off, I cover the body with a few coats of clear varnish. First I seal the speaker, GFCI tester and contacts. It actually looks prettier and brighter when you do this, and I've had no trouble deleting words. It might seem a little drastic, but it's the perfect exit testing tool for my business, and a little preventive maintenance went a long way. Path.
