I have had 4 high end Yamahas that were musically unmatched but seem to burn out/clip amps very easily (4 times in 3 years). Eventually I decided I'd be better off spending my time avoiding headaches and have always 'heard' that Denon makes great AVRs. I tried a Denon between all the Yamahas but didn't like the musical tone - not as bright and clean as the Yamaha. Decided to give the D another try and what you know for movies and home theater is the Denon outperforms the Yamaha. Surround sound is more present at lower volumes, while Denon produces better surround sound just flat. I still haven't played music with it, but with how little music I listen to these days, it's more than worth it, whatever the trade-off. Hope it lasts! UPDATE: This unit still works great, but I've noticed it randomly turns on. I updated the firmware, but that didn't fix the problem. You should not change the score as it will not affect performance. I will keep looking for a solution.
