Great first razor for Razors & Blades

Like other reviewers I agree this razor needs a little TLC to really prepare for a shave. Very well balanced, light, manoeuvrable. Out of the box, the edge is a bit odd, it's not a nice even bevel on either side. On one side it curves up from the ends to the middle, on the other it starts high at the ends and slopes down to the middle. When you look at it it looks like it was ground between two wheels and the blade is slightly curved and the pressure is uneven. I'm a bit of a knife freak and wanted to play with a straight razor so I lowered the price on this one. I took the edge off (cut it above my lap stone) and started from a very rough diamond stone to a 12,000 water stone, then sanded the leather with lap paste, chromium oxide and then to the final finish. Leather strap 5 times so far. I learned very quickly to make it very sharp, but that weird bevel is still there. The print on the plastic handle rubbed off the first time I used it, but it still looks better than all black in my opinion. I highly recommend this as a first razor or as a cheap practice razor if you want to learn how to sharpen and sharpen your own. Get a good sling, you'll need it if you're going to shave with it! And take a good brush! Save money for a razor and treat yourself to straps and most importantly, a brush.
