Review on 🎧 MEElectronics A161P In-Ear Noise-Canceling Headphones featuring Balanced Armature Technology (Discontinued by Manufacturer) by Tamara Simpson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Awesome sound, disturbing design

I've given them about 24 hours to break in and I have a lot to talk about. I bought them as an upgrade for my trusted M6P set which broke after three years of heavy use almost daily. I decided I wanted to go a little higher so I did a little digging and found that MEElectronics once again offers a very well established kit that is widely considered to be well above its price point. With that in mind, I bit the bullet and chose her. A bit against my background - I'm not a music lover but I like speakers with a fairly neutral sound. That's what the music was made for, the music has to sound good for that, so I listen to it. The same goes for movies and games. CONSTRUCTION: 2/5 The materials here don't really impress me. The cord feels fairly flimsy and stretchy, and it's a lot louder than you'd expect from a pair of $90 headphones. The extra-large boom on the headphones, while welcome, also makes using the headphones with the included headphone clips very inconvenient, as you have to really strain to bend them into a reasonably comfortable position. I highly recommend carrying the included pouch with you at all times as I feel like they don't hold up very well if kept being put in pockets. AUDIO: 5/5 Let me tell you - when you buy this set you will find out very quickly where your money has gone. If they had to skimp a little on durability to make the sound so accessible, I'm willing to sacrifice that and force myself to be a little more careful. I have no idea how they did it but they managed to get the bass on both of those things, teeth chattering, real and totally tight. The kick on the heart-shaped box, which can easily sound loose or flat due to poor speakers, is powerful and well-defined here. At the same time, there's plenty of bass for hip hop, EDM, and anything that requires lots of bass. The mids are warm and comfortable without being horny and offer very good separation between the instruments. I have absolutely nothing to complain about. High frequencies are clear, detailed and brilliant, with no sibilance or shrillness. Jazz, classical and acoustic guitar sound fantastic in this set, and albums like Judas Priest's Painkiller, which can be downright painful in some headphones due to the aggressive highs, sound smooth as glass. Initially, the highs sounded a bit muffled at low volumes, but the Pause seems to have fixed that. Although I've read many complaints about the sound stage, I had no complaints. While it doesn't look like I'm actually standing between the studio monitors, that doesn't mean all the music moves drastically toward the center. Movies and games sound good too, and I've never had any trouble locating the sound source. Maybe I just don't know what to hear. Overall, these are some of the best sounding headphones I've ever had the privilege of using. If you are willing to take care of them, they will be a real treat for your ears.
