I ended up replacing them with a $13 rechargeable kit in less than 2 weeks. It's not financially or environmentally sound to keep swapping out small batteries, and they fade fairly quickly. They work very well with fresh batteries. Pros -- Customer service is great - my first red light broke and they sent me a new set overnight. Bats - on the already lighted streets of NYC/Queens, that's enough to make sure you're highly visible/legal. - Fits in my pocket. Cons - I've had them for a week now and I'm already noticing that they're fading fast. 45 hours not. 5-10 with acceptable brightness. You can see in the photo that they are designed to shine straight ahead but also upwards which causes 2 strange problems: - White light shines straight into your eyes while driving. This is distracting and reduces night vision. To prevent this I stuck a piece of black electrical tape on top. - The taillight, mounted on the side of the seatpost as advertised, shines straight back and only in one direction, not both.
