It's a trailer park of sorts, with little traffic and only small streetlights, but I don't think it would be wise to ride a bike without lights. I ended up replacing them with a $13 rechargeable kit in less than 2 weeks. It's not financially or environmentally sound to keep swapping out small batteries, and they fade fairly quickly. They work very well with fresh batteries. Pros -- Customer service is great - my first red light broke and they sent me a new set overnight. Bats - on the already lighted streets of NYC/Queens, that's enough to make sure you're highly visible/legal. - Fits in my pocket. Cons - I've had them for a week now…

I bought Shining Buddy LEDs to use as cycling running lights during the day and they suit my needs perfectly. They are inexpensive, unobtrusive, light and very noticeable. They are also well designed with a simple, screw-free elastic attachment system that allows them to be easily attached and removed from the bike.
