This standard comes with a serial number on the side and in a plastic case with the serial number on a piece of paper. I thought it was paperwork confirming the calibration and/or its manufacturing tolerance, but this paper is nothing more than a warranty card in multiple languages. I have a Mitutoyo 1" tenths of a micrometer that I have carefully calibrated to the 0.050" standard that it came with. It shows zero referenced to zero and 0.0500 inches. This micrometer has a ratchet stop. When measuring this 1 inch standard, I read almost a tenth more than 1 inch (1.0001 inches). EDIT: After carefully wiping the measuring faces and bringing the micrometer and standard to the same temperature, it read exactly 1.0000. I then attempted to measure that reference with my tenth micrometer Starret 1-2" with no ratchet. It consistently reads something between 1.0000 and 1.0001. A hard touch on the thimble can do something with removing that extra tenth EDIT: After carefully wiping the measuring faces and bringing the micrometer and standard to the same temperature, it read exactly 1.0000 I then used my 6" Mitutoyo calipers which had been cleaned and zeroed . It constantly displays one or more thousandths over 1 inch (1.0010" - 1.0015"). I understand that calipers don't have micron accuracy, but wanted to include my observations for those trying to measure with calipers.
