You can use other fittings

The first thing I did when I received this was unplug the seat belt connector and I suggest you do the same. One of my dogs used to step on a seat belt latch in the right spot to unlatch the other one I had. NOT GOOD. I was looking for something more permanent for a dog that hates a leash and doesn't like being tied down. She's a rescuer, so we have no idea what her life was like before we took her. She resists being on a leash, but it's necessary for things like trips to the vet. We bought her an excellent harness for fear she might choke on the collar. I also needed a good solid mount in the car and settled on this. I use the long section and it connects to the connector on the back edge of the seat and on the underside of the backrest. I used a closed carabiner so I don't have to worry about it coming loose. It takes some work to get it there, but once it's there you can just leave. This will not bother passengers who may have to sit there. After installing it, I moved it a lot. I looped the strap around for a better grip and pulled again, really hard each time, using all my weight. It held up, didn't fall apart so I'm sure it will work for my dog. If you don't like the equipment, you can simply exchange it. There are locking carabiners available that I recommend for this purpose because once engaged they cannot be accidentally opened. You can use one to attach both to make one long if needed, although I personally don't think it's safe for a dog on a long leash in a car. DO NOT stand between the front seats. They are designed to keep the dog in a small safe area and to keep him in the car in case of an accident. Too many dogs are lost in car accidents because they were not tied properly. Kennels can be thrown and opened. This is the only good solution to keep your dog safe in your car.

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
