This is a great kit for adding a battery to your SUV. Although intended for marine use, it is ideal for installation under the hood and managing a second battery. The intelligent relay is particularly intelligent as it can detect the charging voltage from both sides of the relay. For example, if it detects a charge from your alternator on your battery #1, it will close the relay and charge battery #2. When the solar system is charging battery #2 the relay will sense the charging voltage, once it is full the relay will close and charge battery #1. The relay can also be deactivated with a charge disconnect circuit so this is indeed a very intelligent relay. The switch isn't really required, but it does allow for some particularly handy options. Depending on how you connect it, you can use the switch to turn off the entire system, use both batteries independently, or electrically combine both batteries via a high-current switch. Consolidating the batteries allows you to start working independently of an external source when the battery is depleted, or increase the available power when working with a winch. Keep in mind that with this kit, you'll still need the correct wiring, battery fuses, a ground strap, and a few hours to get it right. You will also need some understanding of electrical circuits and how they work. There are several equally good and safe ways to install a battery pack. The included instructions provide a recommended wiring diagram and the Blue Sea website has several other slightly different options. I find the included instructions and information on the website very helpful. In summary, this is a high quality and reliable kit from a quality company. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
