Review on 🎧 Wireless DECT Headset System - Plantronics Savi 8200 Series by Brandon Hunter

Faulty or poorly designed unit - return.

Sorry, item is being returned after repeated attempts to resolve multiple issues. This was bought as a Christmas present for my wife who often works from home, sometimes on the phone up to 6 hours a day. The concept of a hands-free, noise-cancelling wireless headset (that isolates the user from external noise) that would work with our desk phone, mobile phone, and computer/Skype seemed ideal. The family no longer has to tiptoe when making a call. Additionally, the DETC range using the headset was compatible with our other DETC office devices and promised to avoid potential interference from other phones, routers or Wi-Fi. Although I did a lot of research online for this purchase, the Savi 8220 is a newer product, so device-specific reviews have been scarce. First, the manual that came with the product (Plantronic Savi 8220) is for basic installation only. The complete manual must be downloaded from the Internet. Most controls for setting up the hardware are done through the appropriate app, which also needs to be downloaded online. To use your phone with a desk phone, you must have a desk phone with a corded handset. Not all desk phones are compatible with the device. Taking calls directly from the headset requires an additional matching "lift" and interface cable for just under $100. Otherwise, calls are answered and placed on the desk phone and then switched to the headset (awkward). Second, the software download link works, but the manual link is dead. Also, the link to the list of compatible landlines doesn't include this Savi model, presumably because it's new. We were able to find the manual with a Google search and in about an hour the hardware was connected, the app downloaded and paired with the new device. We ended up testing 4 desk phones (2 bought new) of different years and models before finding one that seemed to work. Third. When we tried using the Savi 8220, the microphone picked up the user's voice and repeated it out loud through the headset, making it difficult to focus on the conversation. It was through all sources, softphone (computer), cell phone and desk phone. Internet research has shown this to be a common problem with many Plantronic wireless headsets, and apparently can often be solved by turning (many) online and manual volume and sensitivity controls to their lowest setting (meaning you'll be stuck for a very long time). ). . low listening/speaking volume). ). We also experienced an intermittent howl of feedback that sounded like a train whistle. When we contacted Plantronics support (good customer service readily available) the feedback sound made it impossible to speak to them and we manually disabled the device to work with them. After troubleshooting, the support rep advised us to reboot the base unit by unplugging it for a few minutes and if that doesn't fix the problem then send it back as possibly faulty. After the reset, the echo became intermittent instead of constant and was mostly confined to the desk phone source. The feedback became softer and less frequent, but could still interrupt the conversation unexpectedly. We ran the final test during a board meeting with my wife, using the headset's cellular source. I joined the call on a number other than our landline. The Savi 8220's microphone picked up both my wife's voice during the call and my voice across the room on Line 2 (only she on the Savi could hear it). Here is a noise canceling microphone. This is intended for use in call centers where there are dozens of people within range, so the microphone on this device may be defective. We also got feedback, although the headset was on this call and my wife had to leave the office to clean it. We have too many problems to try to replace this unit and we will buy another brand.
