Review on 🧲 TEMCo 10 AWG Copper Magnet Wire - 4 Ounce 8 Feet 200°C Magnetic Coil Winding by Genene Locson

Used as speaker cable in a HiFi stereo system. Equivalent to a similar product sold as speaker cable priced at $232/set (anti-cable). The plating is quite strong and designed to withstand a short circuit of several orders of magnitude more current than that used for speakers. I tried to burn off the coating with a lighter to no avail, so I ended up using a small grinding wheel to remove rust on my drill bit to sand down the coating so I could attach each cut end to the speaker bracket. I made a small shepherd's hook on each end using pliers which actually had to turn the retaining nut to hold the wire in place. Putting jumpers on the ends of the bare wires for the dual terminals on my Paradigm Studio 80 speakers was a real hassle. In total I spent about 2 hours installing the cable into my system. The effort was worth it. I immediately noticed a jump in the clarity of the highs and mids. I am using a Bryston 4b-st for amplification connected to an Anthem MRX510 with Arc for processing using Audioquest Columbia connections. My previous speaker wire was regular 12-gauge household speaker wire, which outperformed two-wire 12-gauge wire and was superior to DIY White Lightning speaker wire (a woodland patio power extension cut to equal lengths and wired in a two-wire circuit). The white Lightning cables were only compared to the $300 Audioquest Rocket 33 two-wire cable set, and the DIY cables met or exceeded the Audioquest product in a number of categories for a range of different sources and recorded material. This magnet wire outperformed my previous cables in every category when compared to the same sources and recorded material. I noticed a small feature that other people who have used magnet wire for the speaker wire have noticed, a slight ringing, as if the speakers were installed in a metal drainpipe and turned up too loud, and the walls gave the sound a slight metallic echo . . It went away after a day or two of playing while I was at work. Some people say that all speaker wire should sound the same and that there is no such thing as burnt speaker wire. I could never convince such people otherwise, but I can tell you what I observed in my system and I'm happy with the end of this experiment. The soundstage is very wide (even beyond the speakers and even wider than my room) but flat and lacking the crisp imaging I've seen with other speaker cables; but it more than makes up for it with crisp highs and mids. I could buy another coil to double wire the speakers to see if that improves bass response, but I'll probably be happy with this setup for a while. Best $25 I've Spent on a Hi-Fi Audio Component.
