Review on EBC Brakes GD7210 Dimpled Slotted by Mike Hernandez

ATTENTION THIN AND LIGHT EBC ROTORS! Comparison: Raybestos (heavy) vs. EBC (light)

I have these GD series EBC rotors in addition to some Raybestos Advanced Technology full disc rotors (also sold under the premium NAPA Auto Parts brand) . I was able to put them side by side and was amazed at how much thinner the EBC's outer rotor cheeks are! Another problem is that the center running blades are further apart on the EBC rotors. As a result, less air flows through the rotor for cooling. Raybestos has more blades that exactly match Toyota's OEM specifications. I weighed each rotor and found that the EBC rotor was (each) 2 pounds lighter! How much iron is missing! This means less surface area to displace heat. Are the slits and dimples supposed to make up for the 2 pound weight loss? Apparently EBC is hoping for that, but I googled "EBC warped" and got a few hits. If you're using ceramic pads that push heat back onto the rotors, don't be surprised if warping occurs at some point. They return to Revane. There is no chance here. I know there are more expensive OEM slotted weight rotors out there, but less iron means lower manufacturing costs, which is more important for some companies like EBC. For more interesting info on brake rotors visit this site: badbrakes dot net Please note the rotors I received were a different colour. I received the black rotors, not the zinc in the Revain picture. There is no way to select the color you want.
