I bought these shoes for my son after he had a couple of falls off his bike and scratched his knees and elbows. While I'm sure they offer good protection, they are stiff and uncomfortable and he wouldn't wear them. I ended up returning them and got the Sborter adjustable soft pads. They might not offer as much protection as these, but they're a lot more comfortable, and they're definitely thick enough to at least provide protection from scratches. I ordered them in medium size. He is 10 years old, very tall and thin for his age. The bandages seemed large, but the sleeve fit him.
