Carefully examining the Baltic yarn, I simply could not pass by the yarn crib. Roving is not twisted wool fiber. Most likely, the roving is a kind of semi-finished knitting thread. In general, I ordered two pancakes of thin roving of the Kauni trademark for testing (800 meters in one hundred grams, but this value is relative, because when tensioned, the fiber of the roving becomes thinner, so it must be knitted very carefully, avoiding strong thread tension). The pancakes turned out to be of impressive size, about to expect centimeters at its widest point, soft, loose, very squeezable and much cleaner than Kauni yarn in skeins. It was somehow unusual to call a rather plump cotton-like fiber "thickness 8/1", then how it looked at least eighty meters in one hundred grams, and not the declared eight hundred)))))) Products connected from a roving, especially from a thin one, as a rule, require additional processing - felting. You can roll with your hands (in this case, the process of dumping is more controllable) or trust the washing machine (that's where the true adrenaline is! the roulette is still the same, no one can definitely guarantee that the fiber in the washer will behave this way, and not that way, there are chances to pull out the micro- a product that can only be put in a corner, so rolled around). I decided to build a beret and one pancake. She just tied a huge beret (after all, he would have to fall off somewhere). The knitting process was quite painstaking, I felt like a sapper - the tender fiber endlessly threatened to break off. And now the hour has come! Decided to roll in the washing machine. I chose a temperature regime of forty degrees, spinning for a thousand revolutions, lathered my beret with laundry soap (due to its naturalness) and away we go! An hour and a half of waiting rewarded me in full. From the drum, I took a dense fluffy round, which already looked more like a headdress. The loops became completely invisible, the canvas looked like a thick woolen fabric, and not like a knitted one. The beret turned out to be too wide in volume, so I decided to supplement it along the edge with my hands: I prepared a hot soapy solution and a basin with cold water. Alternately, she dipped the edge of the beret in one container, then in another and crumpled it with her hands. It is very exciting to watch how the wool sits down before our eyes, falls off. Beretik turned out to be very healthy and was presented to his beloved mother. The experience with roving was a success and brought me a lot of joy. I advise all knitters to try working with Kauni roving. And I hope my first experience will not be my last. All even loops!
