These fenders (like all fenders I've seen) need to be fitted in pairs over the rear fender. The photo shows there may be clips that attach directly to the fender, but they are actually straps to attach two shields together through the top of the fender. The plastic is quite stiff, so using a small spring and hook assembly to attach to seatstays or underside dropouts is almost overkill. You can find nicer handmade guards on etsy but for the price I'm happy with their performance. I don't have a dynamo or ring lock so I can't comment on how functional the cutout might be. The guards do not interfere with the rim brake.
