Review on 🌬️ Lüft Plug Indoor Air Quality Monitor by Bradley Wacks

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Now working properly after firmware update

I have recently renovated my basement to make it more useful and convenient for families. My friend suggested that if we were going to be spending more time in the basement we should keep an eye on radon levels. After reading a bit on the internet, I agreed with his advice and bought three radon detectors: SunRadon Air (the subject of this review), Airthings Wave Plus and Airthings Corentium (see attached photo). I also have a SensorPush device that monitors temperature and humidity. I'm glad I listened to my friend because it turns out my radon levels are higher than I would like and I'm in the process of working on a mitigation scheme. They should be fairly easy to remove, so that's good news. Here are my pros and cons of the SunRadon Air device: Pros: 1.) Plugs into a standard outlet and requires no batteries. This might be a downside for some people if they don't have enough outlets, but for me it's a huge plus. Don't worry about the batteries running out and needing to be replaced. 2.) There is WiFi! So instead of Bluetooth, which requires you to be in close proximity to the device to download data, you can be in another country and get updated air quality information in your room. Okay, that's a bit extreme, but it saves me from having to go down to the basement to connect to the device wirelessly. 3.) Airborne radon measurements seem to agree fairly well with two different Airthings devices. Not perfect, but definitely close enough. With regard to the radon values, all three devices agree well. Disadvantages: 1.) Apart from radon and temperature, no other measurements seem to work on the air device. 2.) I have an air filter that removes volatile organic compounds. in a room with a game detector. The backlash detector typically reads 0 ppb tVOC while the Airthings Wave ranges from 50 to 200 ppb tVOC. When the air filter is on Airthings will detect a decrease in VOC and when it is off it will detect an increase. The backlash detector basically does not detect any changes. Never. 3.) I also have a dehumidifier in the room. Again, Airthings Wave detects a decrease in humidity when the dehumidifier is on and an increase when it is off. The Airthings and SensorPush are a very good match, but Air detects large swings in humidity that are completely unrealistic. 4.) In terms of CO2, air always measures 400 ppm, which is pretty much the same as atmospheric CO2 levels. However, indoor CO2 levels are almost always higher than ambient levels. Airthings Wave measures around 550ppm CO2 per week on average, and Airthings Wave detects higher CO2 levels as I spend more time in the room. The air device never changes. According to him, space is always exactly 400 parts per million, which is very unlikely. I find the app for air and Airthings Wave sufficient. Neither is impressive, but both do the job (I know there isn't an app for Airthings Corentium). Bottom line: if you're only interested in radon measurements, consider air if you don't want to mess with changing batteries and want the convenience of WiFi connectivity. However, if you care about other air quality metrics like tVOC, CO2, and humidity, the Air device is essentially useless. That being said I have reported these issues to air and am awaiting a response. Maybe I got a bad block. If this is confirmed I promise to update this review. I hope you find this review helpful. CheersTMQUpdate: May 3, 2021 After writing the original review and giving the Luft device 3 stars, I contacted Luft to discuss the issues I was having. . After troubleshooting it turned out that I had to update the firmware. I registered the device and updated the firmware and it's been working great ever since. The CO2 levels are now responsive to my presence in the room and the VOCs correlate well with the Airthings unit and my VOC filter duty cycle. Another thing I love is that after registering I now receive an email from SunRADON with a weekly air quality report. It's a really nice touch. So I've adjusted the rating to 5 stars.
