SKR2 has 2 tries, can't recommend this board

So, right now I have a couple of non-working BTT boards that I somehow stopped. You can say that I am somewhat of an expert on all of their fleet offerings and have spent a great deal of time getting to know their customer support team. The SKR2 was my last attempt to get my Ender 3 working again. My machine is so heavily modified that it will no longer interface with the Creality OEM boards that I used to resort to in the event of a fire. I've dug quite a hole here, sort of 3D printering myself into a corner (anyone who's printed too many critical updates without backups knows what I'm talking about). For example SKR 1.4 and SKR-E3-DIP before that I had almost no luck getting SKR2 to work at a basic level. Mainly due to the fact that stepper motor drivers and end stops work absolutely randomly. With the 2209 from BTT, brand new for this new setup, I was disappointed for days. I am also no stranger to Marlin and have built their firmware 1000 times for this printer. As for Marlin, I don't think BTT can be blamed for all the problems people are having, as Marlin itself is still very much in development and can be unstable from day to day in the bugfix branch, so this should always be taken into account for sporadic behavior. The first SKR2 was smoking during homing and I don't know what actually happened other than the smoke was coming from the DIAG pin section of the Y axis stepper drive. I think the board was still responsive but I was ready to swap it out because it might be a bad apple. The 2nd board comes and this time still without smoke, she didn't like my BLTouch, no matter how I connected it and configured it in the firmware. I believe my BLTouch got somehow corrupted by the board because now it doesn't work on my ONLY working board (MKS Robin-E3) which has a broken USB connector. so no serial number. Unfortunately, both boards are going back. I hate giving up, it's not in my natural flow with tech, but I can't stand the idea of spending another $45-$55 on BTT fees anymore. The options aren't great, especially with local 3D printing boards, but I think it might be time to try RepRap on the Duo (whooooohhhhhhhhhhhh) or order another Makerbase board from overseas.
