Review on Ozeri INSTAVAC Storage Container BPA Free by Matheus Buck

Revainrating 2 out of 5

I paid the same for these 3 containers as for 20 other containers. I just realized I hate these things.

I bought them a few years ago. They have a special place on my kitchen shelf and are used as storage containers by my whole family. I took one last night, put the rest of the salad inside, sealed the lid on all sides and released the pressure until the lid flap folded over like I always do. When I opened the box today the valve was still upside down indicating the vacuum was still working, but when I opened the lid the vacuum didn't escape. Then it dawned on me: these things are a trick that never worked. I just realized I hate these things. I paid the same amount for three plastic storage containers as for twenty rubber containers. And every time I use it, it's difficult to attach the four tabs on the lid. They require disproportionate effort to get the job done. If you have them, you understand what I'm talking about. The suction function is a great idea, but it is also successfully implemented with the rubber brand's "burp" function. Ozeri's take on this idea is a complex hinged valve that's supposed to hold a vacuum, but it doesn't. At least not longer than 24 hours, even if they were new. I log this in the "Things I'd Like To Use But Just Don't Work" section. Had I reviewed these items within the first month of purchase I would have given them 4-5 stars even with the difficult to close hinges. and slow leaks because they "seem" cool and I just spent $20 for 3 plastic boxes so they must be worth it or am I a dummy right? But over time, the novelty and pride of the owner wear off, and I'm just a dummy holding three sturdy plastic boxes with lids that are difficult to put on and won't hold a vacuum. My stamp, on the other hand, gets used every day, works for years, doesn't require excessive effort, and takes up a lot less space in my kitchen. I think I'll be taking these Ozeri units to my garage where they make fancy "stuff" holders as they are still sturdy and have a bright green visibility factor. When I was writing this review, I found all three boxes and realized that one of them had been converted into a pet water bowl due to its durability. I am not suprised. I feel a little guilty giving them 1 star instead of 2, but they either work as advertised or they don't. yes they are strong Yes, Ozeri does good, cool stuff in general. But I can buy durable plastic containers for a lot less money. I hope Ozeri changes the design of their lid and vacuum seal, or sells them for a lot less money as something other than efficient food storage containers. Update a week later: I'm amazed that Ozeri responded with a "fix it" offer immediately after posting this review. It means a lot to me, so I'm increasing my rating from one star to two stars. I can't in good conscience do better because I think my review is fair given the way the product is designed and works and is certainly based on years of personal experience with this product. I don't think it works well and having owned containers for a few years I certainly won't be asking for a refund. But let the track record show that Ozeri has enough honesty. I will not hesitate to buy from them again.
