iFi AC iPurifier Quad 'Firewall' Installation and Evaluation

A few months ago I first heard about the iFi AC iPurifier from end user reviews on several computer audio websites. that I often. While considering how best to implement and test these devices in my all-digital computer-based audio/video system, I decided that it would be convenient to place an AC iPurifier in each of the isolated, hospital-grade duplex floor outlets that power my 4 units consume .digital equipment. their power. To get an idea of the contribution each individual AC iPurifier makes, I've moved them into each of the 4 duplex outputs I have in my PS Audio Extension Link AC Distribution Hub, which supplies AC power to all A/V, which allows an AC iPurifier to be used in any duplex output for any device. The following description describes the order in which I installed the AC iPurifier and provides a brief assessment of the changes each AC iPurifier has made to the overall audio and video performance of my AV system: 1) I have the first of 4 AC iPurifiers installed. iPurifiers into the outlet that the Switch Mode Power Supply (SMPS) video monitor uses to provide AC power. I immediately noticed a significant improvement in picture quality, as well as a corresponding improvement in audio quality. 2) I then installed the AC iPurifier directly into the same duplex outlet as my Mac Mini, which transmits audio over USB and video over HDMI. connected. I've read many times that general purpose computers like the Mac Mini use very noisy switching power supplies and for that reason the best advice is never to use them with sensitive dedicated audio/video equipment. The appearance of AC Purifier soon became a very clear and irrefutable confirmation of this advice. Like most of you reading this review, I have spent many years experimenting with ways to improve audio and video playback, keeping in mind that all we see and hear is ours Audio/video systems were once powered by a variable current from the wall. However, the AC iPurifier used directly as a "firewall" in parallel with a Mac Mini on a common outlet for AC power provided an improvement that I think is inversely proportional to what should have been tremendous. the amount of radio interference and current leakage that this general purpose computer would otherwise feed back to the shared AC power supply shared by all other audio/video equipment. I'm very reluctant to make any extraordinary claims, but in this case I have to admit that the improvement here was definitely an order of magnitude, making audio and visual gear shine and for the first time finally get to work that hard. closer to its original design capabilities after quenching AC power consumed by the entire audio/video system with the AC iPurifier.3) The third use of the AC iPurifier was at the outlet of the Wadia 151 Power DAC with its SMPS. This device converts S/PDIF PCM to PWM, which is then L/C filtered to produce a speaker level signal. The improvement seen here was about the same as the processing of the video monitor, where again there was a significant improvement in overall sound quality accompanied by a significant improvement in picture quality as well as overall AC power. once again filtered out of the RFI and leakage currents generated by the Power DAC and its SMPS, which in turn benefits all devices using a now less polluted AC supply. 4) SOtM DDC, which converts galvanically isolated PCM over USB to S/PDIF over Toslink Fused Quartz Glass for Power DAC processing, is the only hardware in the system that uses Linear Power Supply (LPS). I mention this because the use of the AC iPurifier in the duplex outlet that this LPS receives AC power from was the only case in this review where there was no noticeable change in the performance of this device or other devices in the A/V system seemed to give . My take on this is that this LPS probably doesn't generate as much RFI and leakage current as the switching power supplies of the other three devices, and as such there is simply little to no noticeable improvement for the AC iPurifier. Conclusion: Three of the 4 iFi AC iPurifiers I installed in one week together proved to offer the largest and most transformative improvement in both audio and video quality of my all-digital audio/video system to date. which I have worked hard to improve over the years. I know these truly impressive improvements as the most impressive improvements I've ever seen or heard in my A/V system's performance, and thanks to AC iPurifier for skillfully eliminating the copious amounts of RFI and leakage current that once spewed back into the source Alternating current that seriously affected the performance of the device. AC iPurifiers have now allowed the same hardware to function remarkably similar to how it was originally designed, and in this case it has resulted in a true 'component level' upgrade.
