The best mid-range fans

We don't have air conditioning. No matter what you think about global warming, we've seen that our heatwaves over the past five or six years have come earlier, lasted longer, and returned more frequently than our first twenty here at our house. Luckily it cools down at night and with a few good fans we can cool the house down so we don't feel like we're living in an oven. We have used many fans over the years. I am looking for window fans that will fit a 6 inch window sill. Vornado fans move more air with less noise than any other fan we've tried. They are noisy at high speed, but ALL fans are noisy at high speed. sounds the same or slightly LESS in the top end, the Vornado moves noticeably more air than its competitors - and that compares the 15" Vornado to the 20" competitor. At lower speeds, the Vornado is noticeably quieter than other fans, but it still seems to be moving more air. I like the new, more compact design. My only criticism is that ALL Vornado models are required to have a controller above. I don't like the ones that have rear controls; it's always a hassle to turn off/off or change speed.
