I really like this unit. I got one for Christmas and loved it so much I bought another one for my wife. I did a lot of research on this product and its competitors before purchasing and was hesitating between the Garmin Nuvi 350 and this one. Luckily my friend bought the very Nuvi he was considering before I bought it and let me borrow it for the long drive (800 miles one way). So I benefited a lot from it to justify my decision. What I would really like to see is a combination between the two units. Overall I think the TomTom One XL-S was the right choice for me. Pros: Text-to-speech works very well. It finds its location much faster than the Garmin Nuvi. The menu is simpler, the display is much better than the Nuvi in my opinion. It seems to show more detailed motorway entrances/exits, the picture seems a bit clearer (although this is a small difference), but most importantly when a route is planned it still shows information like current speed. Nuvi does not show map and speed when the route is programmed. If you want to see your speed on the Nuvi with a pre-programmed route, you'll have to switch to the alternative view, but you'll lose the map. I think the menu options in TomTom are more user friendly. Like everyone I know with the Nuvi, I too had numerous problems with the removable suction cup. The TomTom suction cup has been very strong since I installed it. So this is obviously a much better design. Cons: One big feature the Nuvi 350 has over this device that I would really like is detailed driving information. For example, Nuvi calculates total stop time, total ride time, average ride time, top speed, etc. TomTom doesn't seem to provide this information, which would be nice. TomTom also lets you download additional computer voices and the like, but there's no space for that, so you'll have to buy an SD card for the add-on. The site is terribly slow. I hope this is because after Christmas they are very busy with people playing with their new toys and things are getting better; However, I felt transported back to the days of dial-up access. The TomTom Home Software Update app for Windows seems a little crappy. However, I'm a software developer, so maybe I'm being overly critical of that. Overall I would recommend this product to everyone I know. I can't wait to see how well the maps update over time, but so far they've been very accurate.
