GPS functions work very well

I wish I could give this device four or even five stars because it does what it's supposed to do so well, which is navigation. The problem is largely TomTom's lack of clear documentation. When setting up TomTom, I searched for a mysterious icon for a long time. I finally found out on the TomTom forums that I was looking for the Windows 7 icon that was in my hidden icon box. Obviously I'm not the first person to be scammed by this feature of Windows 7. TomTom should have known it was a problem and should have warned people. It's not a big deal, but I felt like I wasted my time on something that could have easily been avoided. After clearing that little hurdle, installation was a breeze. I even copied my old POIs and Favorites from my old TomTom. I also updated the POI category; Copy the POI file to your computer, update the file and copy it back to TomTom. Once it's up and running, the new web interface seems quite functional, although I should mention that TomTom's launch documentation didn't make it clear that my device should be using the new web interface and not the old Home software. There is simply no excuse for a simple process not being more clearly documented. Another procedure that is not well documented is enabling live services. As far as I can tell you need to contact the customer service center and ask them to activate it after they confirm your purchase. I used email for this and it took them six days to complete the task. Once "Live" is on, it works pretty well when there's traffic, checking for alternate routes, etc. I commute to and from Boston, so I train my GPS every day. However, Waze might work just as well, so I'm not sure I'll pay $60 to keep it next year. However, I must emphasize that the device itself works very well. Speech recognition works very well. Without "training" you can say "Take me to the nearest Starbucks" and almost magically it will schedule a course to the nearest Starbucks. I am also very impressed with how quickly this TomTom device finds satellites and gets up and running. The technology behind this device is excellent.
