Review on πŸ“¦ High-Performance 55 lb. Digital Postal Shipping & Kitchen Scale by UltraShip by James Kelley

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The battery compartment is annoyingly flimsy.

I really wanted this product and despite all my complaints below it still works. Here are a few things I learned from using it: 1) The battery compartment is too thin and barely stays in place, if you stand the unit firmly while lifting it, 4 batteries will fall out and roll across the room. There is even a warning about this at the beginning of the operating instructions. Why not make a more durable compartment? 2) Battery issue as auto/shutdown is very fast. If you weigh something and pick up the pencil to write down the weight, it will turn off as soon as you look at it again. If you think you can use any 12 volt battery adapter so you don't have to shell out $14 for an adapter, you'll be disappointed to find that nearly all phone chargers and battery adapter plugs have a positive pole on the inside and a negative pole on the outside that do that can damage the device. But the secret is to just cut the plug wire and plug it back together with the polarity reversed and everything should work fine. I'm using an old Nokia charger, dumped the batteries, reprogrammed it to stop auto/shutdown and it works great. So either buy a battery adapter or reconnect an orphaned 12v adapter you have. The rest of the device works quite well.

Pros
  • Lots of positive emotions
Cons
  • Almost never
