Birchriver WV. 1230 feet. 6 miles later the top of Mount Powell. 2358 feet. This ascent had been on my wish list for a long time with several failed attempts. At 68, I quickly realized that the standard equipment I wanted to use just didn't work. I started with a cheap Specialized Rockhopper and over the course of a year swapped out all the components to build a bike I love. This cassette was the final piece in a complex puzzle. I ended up getting a great ride, befitting my abilities. Rockhopper aluminum frame. Stan's Crest S1 wheelset. Sunrace triple crankset. 40 30 22. Changed to 40 30 20 . Shamino Xt 9 speed long cage rear derailleur. Shamino derailleur. 9-speed KMS chain. Just got the front hydr. Fork assembly for carbon gravel bike. Downshifting is a stunning 20/40 split. 6.1 km/h at 80 rpm. Slow sure but makes the 2.5 hour ride easy and fun. 40 11 took me to 23 mph. Wind and slope permitting. Shifting is crisp and quiet. Very happy with this cassette. I would highly recommend this setup for old farts like me who still love to ride. It's a shame the bike company refuses to sell bikes with gear more suited to real people.
