The speed is detected correctly, but the mileage is far.

I have a great app on my phone that shows miles per hour, distance traveled and other stats. I didn't want to keep my phone on the bike though, so I bought this. Installation was easy and relatively quick. I connected it with the included charging cable and nothing happened. I replaced it with my cable and it worked fine. This part is fine. The light works fine. Siren LOUD. too loud but that's ok. The speed in miles per hour matched my phone. Oddly, the speed flashes correctly, then 6 mph, then correctly, etc. But my main problem is that while it picks up the speed correctly, it's the same and the distance is increasing too quickly. I checked my route on my phone and on google maps - both show an accurate distance of 2.25 miles. However, after only 2 tenths of a mile on my route, the distance showed about 0.75 miles. At the end of the track, this device indicated that I ran 5.87. And while the top speed was correctly 11.4, the average was 23. I'm pretty sure my average wasn't 23 mph! This is disappointing and I will return it. This doesn't do me any good as I've been concentrating on tracking the distances I ride and the feature doesn't seem to be working. I set the default tire circumference to 208. That's what my 26 x 2.25 tire is. I don't know why the speed is correct and the distance is long.
