It works very well as a cheap retractable lampshade. Seriously, what do people expect for like ten bucks? What I expect for the money is a cheap plastic product that basically does what it says on the tin and if not abused will last a year or so or little use before breaking and needing replacement. they that i bought suit me. I used them to shade windows in my RV doors. I needed a shade small enough to fit between the door and the screen door, so it had to stick out an inch or less. They fit. The plastic brackets you use to mount it move about an inch or so which allowed me to reuse some of the existing screws in the window frame which was a bonus. They go down about a foot which basically closes my windows. A plastic slider in the lattice door hides everything else. When I press the button they are gone. The spring is strong enough to retract vertically. They pull back with just enough force for me to hold onto as they pull back so they don't slam (which would be "abuse" ). Based on their build quality I would expect them to last about a year before breaking. I shrug and order a new set.
