I needed something to assemble remote controls, cell phone etc. When I got a smartphone, it became an absolute necessity. It takes up a lot of desk space, is durable and good looking, and the wide compartments make it versatile if you don't mind putting two items in one slot. Originally I had planned to put the tallest items at the back. and the shortest in front, but quickly discovered that the tallest object - my wired remote - was much more in my hand than all the others combined, so it moved to the front alongside the clamshell phone and the small hearing aid speaker.
