Not only does it remove dirt/scale instantly, I have noticed that it increases the movement of the water surface compared to my usual water lily. I have an Eheim Pro4+ 600 low flow canister, that helps a bit. It needed a bit of tweaking from time to time so I used a 3ml pipette to suck air from the bottom of the skimmer to get it sitting properly on my waterline. It's been running for two months now and I think the beauty and functionality so far is worth the fragile nature of this item. I tried to be very gentle with it after seeing reviews of it breaking and decided to soak the glass part in bleach rather than stick a brush in it and risk breaking it. My only complaint is that the top and bottom are some sort of plastic with raw, rough edges that the manufacturer should have sanded down, but for the price I didn't mind putting some grease into it.
