Review on 🧴 3M Perfect-It Rubbing Compound | 32 fl oz | 946 mL | 06085 by Michael Boyce

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Not aggressive enough to easily sand through fully cured clear coat.

3M 39060, Perfect It Friction Paste is advertised as being able to handle P1200 grit and minor scratches. In fact, it only works well when sanded with a P2500 grit or higher. Otherwise, polishing will take a long time to clean the surface. I recently tried this product to remove the clear coat on the hood of my '72 Camaro that I painted two years ago. The surface integrity was smooth with a factory orange peel finish. I went through a color sanding with grit from P1000 to P2000. Compared to the standard 3M compound I've used for years, this material takes a bit more buffering time (with DeWALT DWP849) to become shiny. For this kind of work I still prefer the good old 3M Super Duty Compound.
