Review on πŸ”Œ IOGEAR 2-Port HD and DisplayPort Cable KVM Kit: High-Definition Audio and Display Switching Made Easy, GCS62HDPKIT by Chris Owens

Suitable for Dual Link DVI KVM

This is a GCS1782DPKIT test. I think some of the six in front of me are definitely NOT suitable for this switch as this one is not HDMI ready and never can be as their reviews show. Obviously they've also made physical connections, so it's not like they're confusing interfaces. I think Revain pointed to the wrong product. THIS version, DVI version, GCS1782DPKIT. That's what I'm talking about. I had a bit of time trying to find one that worked properly to use the display port inputs on these monitors. Apparently EDIC doesn't work with DP. However, the dual DVI path gives me the 2560 x 1440 I needed and this one comes with D/DVI active for the DP button to keep it working and running. I get clean, crisp images from my workstation and laptop! It's also VERY NICE that ALL the cables face the back. Why why. WHY are there so many, two in the back and one in the front. This is such a stupid design. It has EDIC support so window resolutions stay the same, both PCs think the monitor is there when it's not selected, and open windows freeze when switched instead of stacking on the dedicated monitor, which is an issue with DP -Switches and their lack was the EDIC support. This switch is a great value! It's almost perfect. KB and mouse emulation can be problematic. If you have special keys on both, the emulation kills them. It's easy enough to disable mouse emulation and restore that functionality, but every time you switch you'll get an audible notification that it's been disabled. They have such affairs OR they lose turning on hotkeys. You can't have both. If they had a remote button like the cheap ones it wouldn't matter much. If the buttons on the Switch itself were larger, more tactile and could be operated with a short press, as you might expect, that would be acceptable, but it's not. To turn on the switch, you need to press the button several times to move the KB/M and the monitor separately, or hold it down for two seconds. I know it's not a big deal, but it's a departure from any KVM I've ever used. The 10 year old tripplite switch I'm replacing to support dual-link DVI doesn't suffer from these issues, nor do the Avocent switches I use at work. It's all a bit shaky. For the money, though, it's worth it if you need 2K resolution. (also does 4k with a special and relatively cheap cable. They say)
