This was exactly what I was looking for in our mountain bike bar ends. This "short" version differs from the other set available from Profile Design - the "Boxer" (Profile Design Boxer End) - in that the top does not flex as much. They are lightweight yet strong and snap securely into place; Not a single set has flown since it was installed more than a year ago. On the subject of installation. They mount directly to the metal of the handlebar and not to existing rubber pads. That means you have to do one of two things: cut a little or move a little. If you have small hands and the handlebars are already more than wide enough, you can simply measure out half an inch and cut off the rubber. Alternatively, to avoid cutting injuries, you must move this handle slightly inward. Here's how I did it: Loosen the point where your shift controls connect to the steering wheel and move them an inch. Then take a rubber mallet and start hitting the end of the rubber grip (towards the center of the handlebars as if it were a nail). Sounds crazy, but works great. Soon the hollow end of the metal handlebar will pierce the end of your grip. At this point, put some rubbing alcohol under the rubber and you can move it around, leaving room for the ends of the new rod to be tightened. The alcohol will evaporate and the handle will stay right where you moved it.
